This is where you work out a deal with a company to sponsor your video.
This might mean you get something like $5000 to make the video and then you could get affiliate income on top of that (or sometimes not!).
Entertainment channels rely on sponsorships to make money, I only coach Educational YouTubers.
For Educational YouTubers, sponsorships are an option - aren’t necessary.
I like taking sponsorships that are a flat rate + affiliate commission.
Most sponsorship offers are terrible and a waste of time.
Many YouTubers either hire an agency to negotiate sponsorships for them.
OR they will hire someone full time on their team to negotiate sponsorships for them.
PRO TIP:
If you ever hire someone on your team to negotiate for you it’s best to pretend that they are separate from your company (basically an independent “agent” that is negotiating on your behalf). If you ever negotiate a sponsorship yourself, I’ve known a lot of other YouTubers that actually start a separate email and pretend to be their own agent when negotiating.
Basically, it’s a terrible idea to negotiate sponsorships yourself if the company knows it’s you, because they know that you’re busy and they will annoy you and waste a lot of your time in order to get a better deal. If they are negotiating with someone whose job is to negotiate they might still do this at least it won’t take up your time.
